The goal of this project was to turn a great motocross bike into a trail weapon. Since MX bikes can be hard to sell at times, we figured we’d make a trail bike we can use for a couple of years. We had a big power increase with the Cylinder Works big bore kit, which includes the cylinder, a Vertex Piston, and all necessary gaskets. We didn’t do any additional porting, we didn’t add cams, and we left the valve train stock to keep the reliability up. We removed the backfire screen and added a two-stroke air filter cage for better air flow. The Vortex ignition was mapped by Race Tech and set to run on VP U4.4 and the FMF stainless exhaust system improved performance while remaining durable and still reducing weight from stock. We added a few modifications that were off-road specific, including wrap-around hand guards, a larger IMS tank, IMS coolant catch can in the frame to help with overheating, TM Designworks disk guard, and Pro Moto Billett kickstand. We also added an 18” Tusk rear wheel with Dunlop AT81 EX gummy tires for ultimate grip. ICW braced our radiators and we added Works Connection KTM/Husky axle blocks that allow you to run a less rigid setup like the Japanese bikes and factory race bikes. Supersprox O-ring chain and Stealth rear sprocket were the final touch to ensure reliability and durability on the trail.
